Scope of Practice
One of the more popular questions asked of the Illinois Chiropractic Society by students is: What is the scope of practice for chiropractors in Illinois? The following is a very short description:
Chiropractic physicians are licensed in Illinois under the Medical Practice Act of 1987 (225 ILCS 60/1 et seq.) on a unified basis with other physicians. The chiropractic category, as is clearly evident from Section 2 and throughout the Act, limits D.C.'s only from the use of drugs or operative surgery. The Act in no way defines nor restricts the types of ailments or conditions which may or may not be treated by chiropractic physicians.
